Responsible Investment

Material issues. Practical stewardship. Long-term value.

We integrate financially relevant environmental, social, governance and technology considerations into investment judgement and ownership.

Our approach

Responsibility is part of underwriting.

The issues that matter vary by company, asset, sector and geography. We therefore focus on materiality rather than labels: which factors can affect cash flow, resilience, licence to operate, financing, reputation or long-term strategic value?

Our process is designed to identify those factors during diligence, translate them into ownership priorities where relevant and monitor progress through appropriate governance and information.

This approach is returns-oriented and consistent with the obligations of each mandate. It does not assume that one policy, metric or outcome is appropriate for every investment.

Investment process

From diligence to stewardship.

Material considerations are integrated into the same decision-making system as commercial, financial and operational risk.

01

Materiality assessment

Identify the sustainability, workforce, governance, cybersecurity and stakeholder issues that can affect value.

02

Diligence & pricing

Reflect material risks, liabilities, capex and opportunities in underwriting and structure.

03

Ownership agenda

Set priorities with accountable leaders, timelines and evidence of progress.

04

Governance

Use boards, committees, controls and reporting to support oversight and challenge.

05

Measurement

Track decision-useful indicators rather than collecting data without purpose.

06

Disclosure & learning

Report appropriately, review outcomes and improve the investment process over time.

Cross-portfolio themes

Where materiality often concentrates.

These themes are evaluated according to the circumstances of each investment, not applied as a universal checklist.

I

Governance & integrity

Decision rights, incentives, controls, ethics, transparency and accountability.

II

Human capital

Leadership, safety, skills, retention, culture and workforce resilience.

III

Technology & security

Cybersecurity, privacy, model risk, operational resilience and responsible data use.

IV

Resource & transition exposure

Energy, water, emissions, physical risk, regulation and capital needs where financially material.

Long-term value depends on the quality of stewardship.
